3 Questions With...Jack Huang (IHRP-CP), Associate Director at KPMG Business School
When I left a well-paying GM role in China to join KPMG Business School, it wasn’t the obvious career move.
I had:
– No prior full-time L&D experience
– No direct reports
– A 20% pay cut
But I also had something else:
A calling to help others navigate tough career moments, just like I had.
1. Are you willing to start over to do something more meaningful?
I joined KPMG in a junior L&D role, expecting to learn from scratch.
To my surprise, I was offered a proper role, not the title or pay I once had.
Still, I leaned in. Rebuilt from the ground up. No regrets.
2. Will you invest in yourself even when the payoff isn’t immediate?
I signed up for an Executive MBA at ESSEC Asia-Pacific—paying out-of-pocket and using almost all my leave.
It was painful. But worth it.
Because to teach well, you’ve got to keep learning.
3. Can you stay the course even when no one’s watching (or showing up)?
My first workshop had 6 people. Half left.
But the rest stayed after hours with questions.
That was the spark.
Now, our sessions fill up in less than 24 hours—with no free food.
Yes, there were tough days—workplace conflict, restructuring, even personal grief.
But there were also handwritten notes, coaching requests, and kind words from colleagues who said:
“Please, never leave KPMG.”
That’s why I stay. That’s what makes it all worth it.
What’s keeping you going right now?
