“How do I stand out?”
It’s the #1 question I get.
From students to Fortune 500 brands, they have the same struggles.
My advice:
Embrace your weirdness.
So many people and brands want so desperately to stand out.
At the same time, they’re so terrified of being different.
I asked them, " Well, how do you stand out when you look and sound like everyone else?”
And look, I get it.
I spent most of my life trying to be someone else.
Someone who fits the mold.
As a result, I was invisible for most of my life.
That was until I embraced my weirdness and my flaws/failures.
For example, in my public speaking classes, I often share the story of how I was extremely shy and introverted (still am) and struggled with a speech impediment (still do.)
In my social media class, I shared how I was petrified about publishing videos because I feared being mocked.
People could relate to that more.
They could relate to my failures and flaws.
They could relate to my “weird " teaching style, which combines real-life case studies with game show-style fun.
My point is the more I embraced my weirdness and put it out there, the more people resonated with me.
I was finally able to step out of the shadows.
Now I know it’s not easy but if you truly want to stand out.
Then, share a slice of your weirdness with others.
